November '22 Food Log

Hello! It’s been a while since I made a full blog post. Since I came back from Italy, I didn’t go out much during the month of October. As we approach the end of November, my friends are preparing to move out of Charleston to their next duty station in the next two months. I want to spend time with them as much as I can and cherish these moments here in Charleston before they head their separate ways.

With that being said, here is my November Food Log in Charleston.

Harbinger Café

  • Where: 1107 King St, Charleston, SC 29403

  • What I ordered: The Wholy City Quiche, Honey Latte

  • How much I spent: $19.79

  • Harbinger Café has an earthy cottage vibe. Came here to catch up with a friend. Quiet to moderately loud atmosphere (depending on how many people there are). Perfect place to study/work or to get some coffee with a friend like I did.

Ding Tea & Ha Long Café

  • Where: 281 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29401

  • What I ordered: Bahn Mi Sandwich with Lemongrass Pork, Hokkaido Milk Tea with Boba

  • How much I spent: $15.30

  • If you're looking for an inexpensive spot to eat at and need a break from southern food, this place is a must go. Probably the best Bahn Mi Sandwich I have eaten so far!

Buffalo Wild Wings

  • Where: 4959 Centre Pointe Dr #104, North Charleston, SC 29418

  • What I ordered: 10 Boneless Chicken Wings with Honey BBQ sauce

  • How much I spent: Free in honor of Veteran’s Day

  • Great place to watch sports and hang out with friends while eating some wings.

A.C.’s Bar & Grill

  • Where: 467 King St, Charleston, SC 29403

  • What I ordered: Gin and Tonic cocktail

  • How much I spent: $5.00

  • My friends and I favorite dive bar to pregame at before hitting the nightlife in Charleston. Compared to the other bars in Charleston, this is one of the cheapest bars I've been to. (Look out for the $2.00 beer specials!)

Rappahannock Oyster Bar

  • Where: 701 E Bay St No. 110, Charleston, SC 29403

  • What I ordered: Oysters (x144), Ceviche, Baguette

  • How much I spent: ~$330, split between 4 people ($82.50 each)

  • After being rejected to an oyster roast, we found this place online having a $1/oyster special. Juicy and thick meat in these bad boys.

Carmella’s Café and Dessert Bar

  • Where: 198 E Bay St #100, Charleston, SC 29401

  • What I ordered: Cookies and Cream Cake

  • How much I spent: $15.00, split between 3($5 each)

  • I would say that this is THE late night dessert café here in Charleston. They are generous with the size of their desserts.

Chubby Fish

  • Where: 252 Coming St, Charleston, SC 29403

  • What I ordered:

    • [1] Trigger Fish Tempura

    • [2] Octopus

    • [3] B-Liner Snapper Ceviche

    • [4] Poached Grouper

    • [5] Chili Garlic Shrimp

    • [6] Smoked Catfish Curry

    • [7] Whole Flounder With Ginger Scallion Sauce

    • [8] Citrus Bombshell

  • How much I spent: ~$200, split between 4 people ($50 each)

  • If you want to get seated at this highly sought-out restaurant that takes no reservations... Start lining up at 4:30pm (opens at 5pm). Probably one of the top seafood restaurants here in Charleston... and just based on my own intuition ;)

Sweetgrass Garden Annual Oyster Roast 2022

  • Where: 3121 State Rd S-10-1156, Johns Island, SC 29455

  • What was provided: all-you-can-eat roasted oysters, chili, beer from Low Tide Brewing

  • Tickets: $32.64 – purchased through Eventbrite

    • All funds and donations help support the farm’s mission of growing healthy food for those in need.

  • This was my first oyster roast event. I enjoyed how low-key and humbling this farm was. Plenty of roasted oysters where you could shuck them with your friends and family. A live band played while we sat on a lawn chair and go into a food coma.

That wraps up my eats in Charleston for November! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. On the note of giving thanks, I want to thank my friends here in Charleston for me for being part of my support system. Even if they don't see it... eating out, clubbing, or just sitting in the house with them has helped remind me that these are the kind of people that make the journey worth it and to keep pressing on. Be sure to give thanks to your friends and families as well… even if it’s through food ;)
