February '23 Food Log in Charleston

Hey there! Welcome to my February Food Log!

Looking back on my February eats… I ate A LOT. It was super fun trying out new places and finding myself going back to them soon after (like Cold Shoulder Gourmet and Tempest!!).

And as always, the experience and food tastes more delicious with friends.

As a small disclaimer, I visited most of these places with my friends so we split costs or covered for each other. I will make a note of that at each place. Otherwise, I will still cover the price of my meal.

Let’s get it!

Oyster Roast at Charleston Harbor and Marina Resort (Oyster on the Point)

After living in Charleston for a little over a year… I am now IN LOVE with OYSTER ROASTS! My boyfriend has never been to one so I needed an excuse to go to another one by taking him with me. Although the ticket did not include the oysters, this is totally worth your money, which comes out to be at least $23.00 (entry ticket + bucket of oysters). I would say one bucket is definitely enough for one person. Loved how this was set up by the river with a fantastic view of Charleston.

Where: 20 Patriots Point Road Mount Pleasant, SC 29464

What we got: 1 bucket of oysters and 1 drink for per person

Cost: $10 entry fee (+tax), $13 per bucket of oysters, $8 per drink.

CO-OP at Sullivan’s Island

Post-bike snack. My go-to snack or lunch spot on Sullivan’s.

Where: 2019 Middle St. Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482

What we got: Cowboy Chicken Sandwich

Cost: ~$13, paid for by my boyfriend.

Tempest

After coming here for the first time, I just HAD to go for the 2nd time. The $55 3-course pre-fixe menu is worth the price. Loved the service here as well.

Where: 32 N Market St Suite C, Charleston, SC 29401

What I got: 3 course pre-fixe menu 1st time – Spanish Octopus, Pan Seared Tuna, Honey Pot de Crème

2nd time – Smoked Fish Mousse, Prime NY Strip, Honey Pot de Crème

Cost: 1st time – Dinner paid for by my lovely boyfriend as a Valentine's gift.

2nd time – $55.00

Tempest gives 50% off for military

Stella’s

My friend and I initially did not plan to come here, but we were so glad we swung by here instead. This was my first Greek restaurant here in Charleston. With their generous portions, these plates are definitely meant to be shared.

Where: 114 St Philip St Suite A, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: Pastichio (Spiced Aromatic Ground Beef, Fat Noodles, Baked With Bechamel, Topped With Grated Cheese), Pikelia (A Tasting. Pork Souvlaki, Tiropita, Spanakopita, Kreatopita, Dolmades, Served With Tzatziki)

Cost: $42.85 split

Cold Shoulder Gourmet

My friend and I were lucky that this shop did not run out of sandwiches at around 11am… This place grew a cult-following and now I know why. IT’S SO GOOD. Craig gets his high quality ingredients from local sources and creates the best sandwiches here in Charleston.

Where: 1684 Old Towne Rd, Charleston, SC 29407

What I got: Focaccia Sandwich (I honestly don’t remember what it had inside because it changes everyday… but everything was so so good!)

Cost: $15.32

Deep Water Vineyard

The only vineyard in Charleston. They mainly grow muscadine wine. Although I’m not a wine connoisseur, the $15.00 wine sampling session is hard to beat. Not only is it a great opportunity to learn more about wine, but also to get a little tipsy before having a picnic out in their yard. Not to mention, you get a stemless wine glass at the end of the tasting session. A guaranteed good time.

Where: 6775 Bears Bluff Rd, Wadmalaw Island, SC 29487

What I got: Wine Sampling Session

Cost: $15.00

Charleston Tea Garden

This is North America’s only tea garden… Who knew?! Entrance is free, as well as the factory tour and tea samples. There is also a trolley tour to explore the tea garden.

Where: 6617 Maybank Hwy, Wadmalaw Island, SC 29487

What I got: Factory Tour, Tea Samples, Souvenirs (Peach Tea & Tea Strainer)

Cost: Free entry and factory tour! Souvenirs - $17.31

Renzo

I was looking for an (not-so-expensive) Italian restaurant downtown and came across this place on Google Maps. Loved their pizza, but fell even harder for their gnudi (think of gnocchi but made out of ricotta)!

Where: 384 Huger St #4126, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: Gnudi, Wrath of Kahan Pizza, Funghi Pizza

Cost: $37.52 split

The Faculty Lounge

Would you consider a bar a speakeasy if there are no signs outside and you have to knock on the door for someone to let you in? This is Renzo’s sister bar across the street.

Where: 391 Huger St, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: I’m Fat (Cocktail)

Cost: $13.00, paid for by my friend

Neon Tiger

Quick drinks here at this vegan restaurant. Love the retro funky interior design.

Where: 654 King St, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: Espresso Martini

Cost: At least $10 but it was paid for by my sneaky friend

Citrus Club

One of Charleston’s top rooftop bars. Gorgeous views of the Ravenel Bridge and Downtown. This is located within the Dewberry Hotel.

Where: 334 Meeting St 8th floor, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: Dewberry Tea Spritz (non-alcoholic), Calypso Chips & Dips

Cost: $19.98 split

Sugar Bakeshop

Found this cute bake shop on a run downtown!

Where: 59 1/2 Cannon St, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: 2 cupcakes

Cost: $8.77

Bodega CHS

Great spot for a (hangover) breakfast or brunch after partying all night at Share House.

Where: 23 Ann St, Charleston, SC 29403

What I got: Bodega Brew Coffee, Kathy Bates Sandwich

Cost: $17.54

The Junction Kitchen and Provisions

Popular brunch and breakfast spot in Charleston. Didn’t quite meet my expectations, but apparently I ordered the wrong thing. So I’ll have to give it another shot next time!

Where: 4438 Spruill Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405

What I got: Pigs in a Blanket

Cost: $11.20 with Yelp Discount

Dulce Churros, Ice Cream, and Cocktails

Instagram worthy dessert restaurant. Family friendly place as well!

Where: 3064 Proprietors Pl, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466

What I got: Cappuccino, Classic Churros

Cost: $13.26

Hope you're all finding these food logs somewhat insightful! I'm already eating well in March so look forward to my next food log!
